...trying to find information on my great grandfather, Lucas Stratton
A bit about me...
I grew up in Kirkby, Liverpool (where I was a pupil at Springfield School), then Ainsdale in Southport.
I'm currently using the Ancestry website, and others, to attempt to trace my ancestors, one of whom is proving a mystery...
My great grandfather (my father's mother's father) was known as Lucas Stratton and his marriage certificate states that his father, my great great grandfather, was also called Lucas Stratton. Lucas married my great grandmother (Elizabeth Davies) on February 3rd, 1923 in West Derby, Liverpool (at the time, West Derby/ Liverpool were in Lancashire). The marriage certificate shows that at the time, Lucas Stratton jnr was a joiner, and his father (then deceased) had been a merchant seaman. Elizabeth's father, William Davies was a builder's labourer.
Sadly, my great grandfather died a young man at the age of 32 in 1931. The family were always told that he was dutch, but there is currently no evidence supporting this.
The facts I have are:
Lucas married my great grandmother (Elizabeth Davies) on February 3rd, 1923 in West Derby, Liverpool
He once worked for The Elder Demster Shipping Line.
No record of birth or immigration can be found.
Lucas Stratton died in West Derby in 1931.
I remember his wife, my great grandmother often saying that she could read people's tea leaves!
Addresses that Lucas Stratton lived at:
February 23rd, 1923: 27 Irvine street, West Derby, Liverpool (evidence: his marriage certificate)
April 15th, 1927: 37 Nuttall Street (off Wavertree Road), Liverpool (evidence: Baptism record for baptism of son, Eugene Eric Stratton - 28 May 1927 St Catherine, Liverpool)
Occupation:
1923: Joiner (evidence: marriage certificate
1927: Builder's Labourer (evidence: Baptism record for baptism of son, Eugene Eric Stratton - 28 May 1927 St Catherine, Liverpool)
If anybody has any information that could possibly help me in my search, or if you have lived at one of the addresses where Lucas Stratton lived, I would be extremely grateful if you would contact me, but please remove the -XXX- from the end of my e-mail address before sending - (the -XXX- prevents spam being automatically sent to me....!).
Many thanks,
Sarah Jayne Davies
